The Biggest Week in Peptide Therapy History — What It Means for You as a Roots Wellness Patient
If you have been following the peptide world, this week was a big one. And if you have not been following it — that is okay, that is our job. Here is everything you need to know in plain language.
What Happened This Week
The FDA advisory committee spent two days reviewing seven peptides — substances that have been used in functional medicine for years — to decide whether compounding pharmacies should have a formal legal pathway to make them for patients with a valid prescription.
The result? Six out of seven got a YES vote. Against the FDA's own staff recommendation.
That is a big deal.
The six that passed:
BPC-157 — gut healing, tissue repair, inflammation
TB-500 — connective tissue, wound healing, recovery
KPV — gut health, immune support
MOTS-c — metabolism, energy optimization
Epitalon — longevity, sleep regulation
Semax — brain function, focus, neuroprotection
DSIP was the only no — and it lost by a single vote over a technical data issue, not a safety concern. It will be back.
Does This Mean They Are Fully Legal Right Now?
Almost — but not quite yet. Think of it like a bill that passed committee and now has to go through the full process before it becomes law. The vote this week is a major step forward. The formal approval process still has to play out, which typically takes another year or so.
But here is the important part for you as a patient: this does not change anything about your current access at Roots Wellness. We have been here the whole time — and we are not going anywhere.
What About Peptides Not on This List?
Great question — and one we want to answer honestly.
Not every peptide was reviewed this week. There is a second round of reviews scheduled before February 2027 for five more that are next in line: GHK-Cu, LL-37, Dihexa, Melanotan II, and PEG-MGF. These are not forgotten — they are simply next in line. GHK-Cu in particular has one of the strongest evidence bases of any peptide under review and is widely expected to do well.
What About CJC-1295 and Ipamorelin?
We get this question a lot — and we are happy to answer it directly.
CJC-1295 and Ipamorelin are two of our most prescribed peptides, often used together to support growth hormone release, body composition, sleep quality, and recovery. They were caught up in the 2023 restrictions along with everything else — but unlike the peptides reviewed this week, they were restored to legal compounding status earlier this year as part of the broader April 2026 regulatory action.

These two are in the clearest legal position of any peptides we prescribe right now. A licensed compounding pharmacy can fill them with a valid prescription today. If you are currently on this protocol, nothing changes. If you have been curious about it, now is a great time to ask us.
What About Tesamorelin?
Tesamorelin deserves its own mention because it sits in a completely different category from everything else we have discussed.
Tesamorelin — sold under the brand name Egrifta — is the only growth hormone-releasing peptide that holds active FDA approval. It was approved in 2010 based on two large clinical trials and has been continuously legal and accessible ever since. While the rest of the peptide world has been navigating regulatory uncertainty, Tesamorelin has never been touched by any of it. PeptideMark
When enforcement tightens around compounded peptides, approved compounds like Tesamorelin remain accessible through standard prescription channels while unapproved compounds can face supply disruptions. That stability is one of the real practical benefits of FDA approval. PeptidesExplorer
At Roots Wellness, we prescribe Tesamorelin off-label for metabolic health, visceral fat reduction, and body composition — uses that fall squarely within our clinical expertise and your individualized protocol. If you have been curious about whether Tesamorelin might be right for you, reach out. It is one of the most well-studied peptides we offer, and the regulatory path behind it is as clean as it gets.
Why We Have Been Able to Prescribe These All Along
In April 2026, the FDA lifted the prohibition on twelve peptides that had been restricted since 2023. Lifting the prohibition is not the same as full formal approval — but it means a licensed compounding pharmacy filling a prescription from a certified provider is on solid legal ground.
Think of it this way. There are three situations a peptide can be in:

Fully approved for compounding — like Sermorelin, which has never been restricted and has been legally available the entire time.
Prohibition lifted, formal approval still in process — this is where most of the peptides we prescribe sit right now. No longer banned. Moving toward full approval. Accessible through licensed pharmacies with a valid prescription.
Still restricted — we do not prescribe these. Full stop. (Retatrutide)
Everything we offer at Roots Wellness falls into the first two categories. Never the third.
What Makes Roots Wellness Different
We know a lot of patients have questions about where their peptides come from and whether it is safe. Here is exactly what we do — and have always done:
We only source from licensed compounding pharmacies. Not overseas suppliers. Not research chemical websites. Licensed, California-compliant pharmacies with documented quality controls.
Every prescription is personalized to you. Your labs. Your symptoms. Your goals. We do not hand out protocols from a menu.
Our providers hold advanced certifications in peptide therapy. This is not a side offering — it is a clinical specialty we have invested in.
Every patient signs an informed consent that is honest about where the science and the regulations currently stand. No surprises.
Your prescription is documented in your chart with a clinical reason behind it. Always.
The Bottom Line
This week the science won. A government committee looked at the evidence for these peptides and said yes — even when the FDA's own staff said no. That is exactly what we have believed all along.
We are proud to have been offering safe, supervised, clinically driven peptide therapy to our patients throughout all of it. We will keep watching, keep updating our protocols as the law evolves, and keep putting our patients first.
Have questions about your specific protocol or what this week means for you? Reach out to our team — we are always happy to talk through it.
